COVINGTON, Tenn. - LINK | Connected Tennessee
Inside a small room at the Tipton County Department of Human Services office in Covington there are some mighty big hearts. Computers 4 Kids Connected Tennessee was there to give families computers.
Deanna Ward says, "If you want to be an athlete you need a helmet and pads but if you want to get an education you need a computer."
Parent Darlene Adams says, "Right now I want to cry I really do because I mean I can't afford to buy a computer so my kids they are going to love this."
The non-profit program based in Nashville travels the state
helping those who can't afford computers get them for free.
Ward says, "We started trying to figure out how we can grow
technology and one of the important things we realized is that in a
lot of our disadvantaged families one of the pieces they're missing
is they can't access the internet."
Over the last two years through the program, organizers have given away more than 1,600 brand new computers to Tennessee residents and Tuesday the giving continued with 133 more.
Sheila Shannon says, "Everybody can't get things that other folks have and you know our kids sometimes feel bad because they can't have those things its a blessing."
The group's goal is for the computer to help the families succeed for years to come.
Adams says, "This is going to help me a whole lot my daughter just graduated last year and she's going to school to be a nurse and she need that computer."
One recipient says, "Christmas in May, Mothers Day and Christmas in May thank you!"
Another parent says, "I'm getting a computer, a brand new computer, and I thank God greatly - I appreciate you all for giving it to us cause its gonna benefit my family a whole lot!"
