State Annexation Bill Won't Move Forward

Memphis, Tn - Tennessee Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris pulled two annexation bills on Thursday afternoon because of a legal opinion from the state's Attorney General.

The Attorney General though the bills were unconstitutional.

The bills would have removed a large piece of eastern Shelby County north of Germantown all the way to the Fayette County line.

Norris had said he didn't think the bills would hold up, but introduced them anyway because his constituents were afraid Memphis would annex the land.

In the wake of Norris' bills, the Memphis City Council made a strategic move and started the annexation process, but promised to stop the annexation if Norris pulled his bills.
