New Era in City and County Government

Memphis, Tn - Monday morning brings a new era to both city and county governments. Joyce Avery will be the first female County Mayor and AC Wharton will take the reigns as City Mayor.

Avery promises she will concentrate on ending government waste during her 30 to 45 days in office, “I can assure you county tax payers, if I see any waste, I’ll do away with it.”

Fox 13 Insider Mike Fleming thinks that Wharton will play things cautiously, “I think he’s very careful about who he puts in big, key positions, but I’d say he’s got all the indicators that his top people will come from Shelby County.”

Fleming adds with crime on the minds of many Memphians, the position of police director may receive the most attention, “It would shock me if Director Godwin stays. I wouldn’t shock me if he goes.”
