TUPELO, Miss. - U.S. Rep. Travis Childers says he's asking President Barack Obama to nominate state Sen. Gray Tollison of Oxford as U.S. attorney for the northern half of Mississippi.
Childers confirmed the decision Monday to the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal.
The congressman, the president and Tollison are all Democrats.
Tollison is a 45-year-old attorney and has served in the state Senate 15 years. His district encompasses all of Lafayette County and parts of Tallahatchie and Yalobusha counties.
The U.S. attorney is the chief federal prosecutor. The position requires confirmation of the U.S. Senate.
