Memphis, Tn - Saturday afternoon, as former Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton lead an official kick off to his Congressional bid, the current incumbent Steve Cohen said he would run on the platform that he’s been working on since elected 4 years ago.

“I’m concerned about the jobs, the economy. I’m concerned about the MED. I’m concerned about civil rights,” said Cohen.

Cohen served as a State Senator for 24 years and as a Congressman for the last 4. He said his record will speak for itself, “I’ve cast the essential vote that built the MED, the most important health care vote in the history of the county, created the state lottery most important impact on education in the state probably ever, so how do you go against someone like that.”

Cohen said he’s heard some of the things the former mayor has said about race, but says he’s sticking to the facts and not allowing this to be a black or white driven campaign, “Race is secondary to issues and the candidate and there performance and their abilities.”
