(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Have that donut, it's International No Diet Day. That's right today is " an annual celebration of body acceptance and body shape diversity " and we have seven ways to do it.

Started in 1982 when Mary Evans Young, of England, wanted to fight the diet industry and raise awareness of the dangers in anorexia and other eating disorders, the day celebrates body image acceptance.

The day is symbolized by a blue ribbon. Its goals include raising awareness of weight discrimination, showing there is no right body shape, and promoting a day free from diets.

About.com's Eating Disorders blog encourages people to "make it a day of freedom with food."

The Body Image Coalition recommends:

  • Celebrate your natural size, eat well and be physically active every day
  • Pay others a compliment based on something other than weight-related qualities
  • Remind yourself that you are unique and do not compare your body to others
  • Make a top-10 list about what you love about your body
  • Eat at least three healthy meals and two snacks every day.
  • Help young people understand that the images of beauty portrayed in the media are not normal.
  • Avoid diets and scales
