Teacher Behind Bars on Sexual Misconduct

Monday after an investigation by the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department Deputies arrested 23-year-old Joey Johnson of Horn Lake for allegedly having sex with at least two Lake Cormorant High School students.

According to the school district and the Sheriff's Department, Johnson was a substitute teacher at the high school, but looking through his Facebook page he describes himself as a coach with the school's football team.

Sheriff Bill Rasco says, "It's a sad situation when something like this happens when somebody in an authority over someone takes advantage or tries to get an advancement on young girls."

But Tuesday FOX13 News confirmed Joey Johnson's relationship with Lake Cormorant schools is two fold. DeSoto County Schools confirmed Johnson's mother is one of two Vice Principals with Lake Cormorant Middle School. While they refused to give us her name, we found on Johnson's Facebook page, a picture he posted of him and Janell Hankerson, with a caption identifying her as his Mother, a new discovery that has those with children who attend the school on edge.

Julie Church says, "It's a dangerous time. Home schooling and private school is sounding better everyday."

While Johnson who's charged with multiple counts of sexual battery is behind bars waiting on his day in court.

DeSoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco says this case broke because someone spoke out, investigators then taking action.

Sheriff Rasco says, "We want people to know that were here to help them this is something that we can not tolerate. If anybody has any information don't hesitate to call we'll follow up on anything you have."
