Woman Struck by Train at RR Crossing

One day after an accident that took the life of 21-year old Linah Luana Young, cars and trucks travel the same path she did Sunday afternoon before the fatal crash.

Roger Clemens says, "This is a dangerous intersection."

Young was killed instantly when she crossed this railroad crossing in Byhalia without seeing an on coming train.

Byhalia Fire Chief Leland Reed says, "This has been the second one I can say that has been a fatality here."

Monday friends on her Facebook page say goodbye.

Neighbor to the problem crossing, Roger Clemens says this path is and always has been a dangerous drive.

Clemens says, "Lots of people use it, very few of them ever stop here see they don't even have a stop sign."

Clemens says many Marshall County residents use this crossing to avoid back ups further down 178.

The main problem he and others say the lack of any flashing lights - or railroad crossing gates.

Clemens says, "If they had a gate here, of course, that would stop the traffic automatically."

Monday Byhalia Police and fire surveyed the accident scene searching for answers.

Reed says, "Everything is still under investigation with us the police department and the railroad."

Clemens and others in the area Monday demand change.

Clemens says, "And even if it only saves one life it would be worth having the gates there for."

While the investigation is still ongoing this week, MDOT will meet with county and city leaders along with the rail company where they'll discuss the possibility of installing flashing signals and a rail crossing gate.
