Olive Branch, Ms - Mid-south company Landau Uniforms wants to remind people about the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

The January earthquake that hit Haiti killed hundreds of thousands of people and left millions injured or homeless. Laundau uniforms is helping by sending about 40,000 pairs of scrubs to the devastated area.

"They need help desperately," says Nathaniel Landau, founder of Laundau uniforms. "And they'll need help for a long time."

He says the company has made donations in the form of scrubs for several major disasters, starting about eight years ago. It was then the company realized the value of scrubs in a disaster area.

"Scrub tops, scrub pants, which are used in surgery," says Landau. "But they've become an item people wear anywhere and everywhere."

The 40,000 scrubs are valued at about $600,000. Landau is hoping by making the donation now people will be reminded that haiti still needs help.

"When these disasters strike there's a lot of people around the world who immediately help and that dies down in a hurry," says Landau. "Haiti will be rebuilding for not months, but years."

While individual donations have slowed, so has help from world governments. The UN reports that less than 10 percent of the $5.3 billion pledged for Haiti relief has been delivered.

That's where small businesses can step up and help.

"I think its important to give back to the community," says Landau. "The community has been good to us and I think its important to give back."
