Memphis, Tn - The three men who've spent 18 years behind bars sat side by side with attorneys lined up behind them and reporters lined up in front of them.
Damien Echols was the most vocal, but Jason Baldwin hit a cord when he said he wanted to continue fighting.
Before taking questions 18 years in the making, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jesse Misskelley each professed their innocence.
Echols did most of the talking during the news conference that followed the case closing court hearing. Echols commenting off the bat on their unusual plea deal which included each pleading guilty while maintaining their innocence.
"It's not perfect by any means but at least it brings closure to some aspects," said Echols.
Echols reminding people how overwhelming his new found freedom actually is.
"Take into consideration I spent almost the last decide in solitary confinement. (I'm) not used to being around this many people."
Baldwin had perhaps the most emotional comments explaining why he went along with a guilty plea in order to leave prison.
"Didn't want to take a guilty plea, but they were trying to kill Damien. Sometimes you gotta fight to save somebody," he said.
Misskelley's only comments coming after a question about safety concerns now that he's a free man, unshackled from a case that attracted celebrity support.
"Yeah, I'm worried. But even in prison you gotta worry about safety. Don't matter what the crime is. You worry about your safety regardless," said Misskelley.
The three men who were locked up as boys were asked about their plans from here. Echols said he wanted some sleep while Misskelley said he wanted to see his father.
