Southaven, Ms - Angry Southaven citizens gathered at the Southaven Library on Thursday night, forming a political watchdog group to address the corruption plaguing the city.

After a short, patriotic prayer about being able to meet freely, about 60 people got down to the business.

"I believe we can organize. We can send a message to our city officials that we are majorly concerned," said founder Linda Temple.

Within minutes, volunteers came forward to be a part of a seven member steering committee charged with taking questions and concerns with the purpose of getting answers.

Immediate worries vocalized included how Mayor Greg Davis was allowed to freely spend the city money he spent and how some contracts got his sole consent.

Alderman Ronnie Hale was at the meeting and said that the Board didn't have the power to cut Davis' pay without going through the proper legal channels.

Steering committee members say the city's current troubles have opened their eyes and forced them to take more of a role in city government. They say what's gone on recently, stops now.
