MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A nonprofit agency that helps people with intellectual disabilities stay in their homes will close down its Memphis operations by the middle of October.
Mosaic notified the state on Monday that it would lay off 85 employees, however most of the workers are expected to transfer to other agencies which have the same mission, according to The Commercial Appeal.
Sherry Taylor said Mosaic helps 21 adults in the city with skills such as paying bills and housekeeping.
Taylor said most of the layoffs are related to Medicare cuts.
She said most employees will go to work for similar organizations, such as ACA Communities, St. John's Community Services or Support Solutions.
Mosaic has operated in Memphis for a decade. Most layoffs will take effect by the end of September.
