MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Shelby County Health Department confirmed Friday that the August 4th death of a Memphis sanitation worker was heat-related.

65-year old Jerdean Johnson was found dead inside his Orange Mound apartment after a co-worker became concerned when he wasn't outside for their usual ride to work together.

Health officials stated that Johnson died from a heat stroke. There were no working utilities in the apartment, and relatives told FOX13 that he had lived that way for nearly a year. They added that Johnson was one week away from retiring.

Just the day before Johnson was found dead, high temperature soared to 106 degrees in Memphis, with a heat index around 115 degrees.
