Memphis, Tn - U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen is praising four Memphis museums for being re-accredited by the American Association of Museums.
Cohen played host to officials from the National Civil Rights Museum, The Dixon Gallery and Gardens, The Pink Palace and the Brooks Museum of Art in his Memphis office on Thursday.
The Dixon, the Pink Palace and the National Civil Rights Museum earned re-accreditation in 2011. It lasts through 2026.
The Brooks Museum of Art was re-accredited during a previous cycle.
The museum association's website says only 779 of the nation's 17,500 museums, or 5 percent, receive accreditation.
Civil rights museum president Beverly Robertson called accreditation a "robust process" that looks at all aspects of a museum, including its board, collections, education and exhibits.
