Memphis, Tn - Some Memphis city workers are under investigation, after concerns were raised that city assets are being used for personal gain. The city's Community Enhancement Division is at the center of this probe.

City leaders say they're in the midst of "several investigations" into the operations of that division.

They say division director Johnie Mckay is on paid administrative leave and 2 current employees are expected to face disciplinary action following an internal investigation.

Mckay was escorted out of City Hall last Tuesday.

According to City CAO George Little, the move was a necessity, "We felt we needed to take immediate action as far as placing him on administrative leave. We wanted to make sure there were no compromises to the integrity of records being kept in community enhancement division and no communication with individuals, other individuals who may have been subject of the investigation."

After Mckay was placed on leave, he turned in his notice to retire on February 3.

A fourth employee, who retired this month, is also being investigated.

Little says the investigations are separate and independent.

He also says the Mayor intends to turn over his findings to the FBI, US Attorney's Office and District Attorney.

Former Mayor Willie Herenton formed the Community Enhancement Division in 2008 to fight blight in Memphis. It encompasses code enforcement and grounds maintenance.
