Memphis, Tn - Social networking has become a way of life for millions of Americans, but if you're not careful what you post, you could lose your job.

The City of Memphis implemented a new 2-page social networking policy. It outlines what city workers can and cannot post on websites like Twitter and Facebook.

The most important rule: Don't post anything that paints Memphis is a negative light. The consequence is possible termination.

One excerpt reads: "In general, employees who participate in social media are free to publish their own information without censorship by the city. Employees must avoid posting information that could place the city at competitive or legal compliance risk."

City Councilman Jim Strickland is against the legislation and joined Fox 13's Mearl Purvis to discuss the new policy.

County Commissioner Steve Mulroy joined Fox 13's Ernie Freeman at 10.
