Memphis, Tn - Former MPD officer Norman Benjamin was cleared to stand trial over the weekend following the completion of his mental evaluation.
Benjamin is the former Memphis Police Officer who lied about who shot him over the Labor Day weekend.
A date for his preliminary hearing is still pending.
Benjamin's defense attorney Leslie Ballin explained what comes next, "a hearing would be set for the end of December, first part of January. The state will be obligated to call witnesses to show enough evidence for the case to go forward."
Benjamin is also charged with hiring a hitman to kill the boyfriend of his teenage girlfriend.
He is also in the process of getting a divorce from his wife.
