MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A program aimed at saving lives for more than 10 years called 'Tow to Go' is now in Memphis. If you've had too much to drink this holiday season and can't get home, AAA Auto Club South and Budweiser will help.
With the holiday day season across the Mid-South in full swing, law enforcement officers know some will make bad decisions and get behind the wheel after drinking.
Their option, a new program offered by AAA Auto Club South called 'Tow to Go' will offer a free tow to anyone who can't drive through January 2nd.
The program has been helping intoxicated drivers since 1998 in other parts of the country. They say 'Tow to Go' has taken more than 10,000 drunk drivers off American roads.
The program started Tuesday, and works like this: if you're out and you've had too much to drink, you call their toll free number at 1-800-AAA-HELP (1-800-222-4357). A tow truck picks both you and your ride up and takes you home free of charge.
Both Shelby County and Memphis law enforcement officials say while you should always think before you drink, there's no excuse for driving while under the influence.
The program is funded by both Budweiser and AAA Auto Club South.
If you need to use the 'Tow to Go' program, drivers will take you
anywhere in a 50 mile radius of the city. Representatives also say
this program will be back in 2010 for every major holiday, but add
'Tow to Go' should be used as an emergency option after trying to
get a cab or calling family members.
