MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Two Memphis women are using their family business as a way to raise money for cancer research.
For sisters in law Jill Notowich and Debra Lazarov, designing and making jewelry is a labor of love. But one very special piece they've designed is allowing these two talented Memphians to give back to a worthy cause.
Designing and making jewelry consumes much of business partners Jill Notowich and Debra Lazarov's time. The two sisters in law and best friends, own their own jewelry company, "DebraJill". Having been in business for more than five years now, no piece of jewelry has spoken to the two artists like one of their latest designs.
"The idea was inspiration from a dear friend of mine who lost her nephew to cancer," said Notowich.
This sterling silver bracelet, which is hand crafted in the DebraJill studio, is meant to serve as a constant reminder of how special each day is.
"I think what's so amazing about this particular slogan ‘Each Day Is a Gift’ is that everyone identifies with it in some shape or form-whether they're battling cancer or whether they're battling some other type of horrible disease, it seems to resonate," Notowich said.
"We are not able to keep them in stock and we are so fortunate that our community and outside of our community has embraced our jewelry designs and this has also taken on a life of its own and people are buying it for gifts and buying for themselves because everybody is touched by some form of cancer or some illness and it means something to everybody," said Lazarov.
The bracelets, which are available at select stores in the city of Memphis, are being sold to raise money for cancer research. Dazzle in Germantown is one of the boutiques selling the DebraJill bracelets and is donating 100 percent of the store's profit to help find a cure.
"The fact that we get to seal it and give back, makes a difference in our every day life," said Notowich.
"We hope this is the first of many designs that we're able to give back to cancer research," adds Lazarov.
The bracelets are available at Dazzle, Joseph's and Oak Hall in Memphis. For more information, click on the links below.
