Memphis, Tn - A six year old Shelby County Schools student is expelled after bringing a hand gun on the school bus.

A Shelby County Schools spokesperson says a six year old boy, a first grader at Highland Oaks Elementary School, was expelled for the year after bringing a .22 caliber pistol on the school bus.

Mario Johnson's two boys graduated from Highland Oaks Elementary last year.

"That's scary," says Johnson. "You don't send your children to school expecting they could be shot. You send them to school to get an education, so that's scary."

The school's spokesperson says he does not know if the gun was loaded. He says other children on the bus alerted an adult that a child had a gun.

We talked to a father who said it was his son who alerted an adult about the gun. He says the boy took the .22 caliber handgun out of his backpack, pointed it at his son and asked him if he wanted to die today. That's when his son alerted the bus driver.

The school's spokesperson says he did not know of any threats. The child was taken into custody by a Sheriff's deputy.

"Where are the parents in this?" asks Johnson. "How does a 6 year old get access to a firearm? That's crazy, that's ridiculous."

So far no charges have been filed against the six year olds parents. The Sheriff's office says this is an ongoing investigation.
