A substitute teacher is behind bars after Desoto County Sheriff's deputies arrested him Monday, for allegedly having sex with multiple underage students.
Deputies say they worked frantically through the weekend on this case so no other students would be in jeopardy. A spokesperson for the Desoto County School District says the substitute teacher was background-approved temporary services employee and not an employee of the Desoto County School system. Still, parents think more needs to be done to ensure their children are safe.
23-year old Joey Johnson of Horn Lake, Mississippi is charged with multiple counts of sexual battery. Johnson is alleged to have had sex with at least two 16 year old students while working as a substitute teacher at Lake Cormorant High School near Walls, Mississippi.
According to his Facebook site, Johnson is a football coach at the high school. He has a one year old son and was in the army.
Many pictures show Johnson with what appears to be, young girls.
Johnson isn't the only Mississippi teacher facing charges. Last week, 22-year old Tyler Bigham, a music teacher at Desoto Central High School was arrested and charged with sexual battery for allegedly having sex with a 17-year old student at a park. Parents want more checks and balances in place.
A spokesperson for the Desoto County School District says Johnson will not be allowed to substitute at any other Desoto County School while the incident is under investigation and added the alleged incident did not happen on school property.
Johnson is being held on a $100,000 bond. Sheriff's deputies urge any other victim's to contact them at 662-429-1470.
