Memphis, Tn - Heather Ellis is a pastor’s daughter who was on her way to medical school and had no criminal history. Ellis was arrested and charged with trespassing, disturbing the peace, and two felony counts of assaulting a police officer in Kennett, Missouri in January of 2007. It all happened when a disturbance broke out after Ellis allegedly cut in line at a local Wal-Mart.

Ellis now faces up to 15 years in prison and has been receiving national support.

On Sunday, just feet away from where Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel, a handful of civil rights leaders from across the country gathered to show support for Heather Ellis.

This group, starting with the SCLC, is planning a trip to Kennett on Monday morning to rally for Ellis.

Stay tuned to Fox 13 news for the very latest from Les Smith, who is travelling to cover the full story.
