NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A McNairy County elementary school teacher has been named Tennessee's Teacher of the Year.

Patty Kiddy teaches first grade at Selmer Elementary School in Selmer.

According to a release from the state Education Department, colleagues describe her as enthusiastic, hard working and willing to try new and innovative teaching methods.

Kiddy has taught in Tennessee for 35 years. She received the award Thursday night at the annual Teacher of the Year banquet where Barbara Hill was named grand division winner for Middle Tennessee and Resa Byrd was named winner for East Tennessee.
