MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Packing heat at your local restaurant, juke joint or honky tonk- guns in restaurants and bars in Tennessee is now the law and some say it's a disaster waiting to happen.

Last year the Tennessee Legislature passed a measure that legalized guns in bars and restaurants for people with permits.

The governor vetoed that bill, and the legislature later overrode his veto. Then a short time later a judge threw out the law, saying it was constitutionally too vague.

Then earlier this year, Tennessee lawmakers passed another version of the guns in bars bill, which was again vetoed by Bredesen.

The legislature overrode the veto again and now it's legal to pack heat in Tennessee bars and restaurants, if you have a handgun carry permit.

That means 270,000 Tennesseans and millions from other states can pack heat while in state bars and restaurants. This law passed despite strong opposition from restaurants, law enforcement and the governor.

Republican representative Curry Todd of Collierville sponsored the bill and joined FOX 13 along with restaurant owner Benny Carter, who owns Murphy's in Mid-Town. Plus, what do regular folks think about the possibility of sitting next to someone who may be armed? Fox 13's Darrell Greene hit the streets to find out.
