MEMPHIS, Tenn. - We are just days away from the August 5th election being certified and as that day draws closer that election is still under a cloud of controversy.
You may remember, back on August 5th, the Shelby County Election Commission had to hand out thousands of provisional ballots. That's because many of the computer screens were telling poll workers, people had already voted.
But they hadn't.
So some voters filled out the provisional ballots, others simply went home, having never cast their ballot. Meanwhile, the political mud-slinging started after the first complaint.
On Election Day, Democrats rallied against the Republican controlled Election Commission, and demanded an investigation.
Not only did they get one- they got two.
As the commission's investigation is expected to wrap up any day now, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations is also looking into the matter and the county Democrats have filed suit.
But as for the voters who were affected at the polls, this isn't a political issue. They just want to make sure their vote is counted. FOX13's Darrell Greene talked to some voters who say all they want is a fair process.
Also, Shelby County Election Commissioner Bill Giannini and the attorney for the Democratic Party in Shelby County, Van Turner sat down with FOX13 to talk about the recent lawsuit and the Elections Commission's Investigation.
