MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Rise Foundation is rewarding students in the Foote Homes community for good grades and good conduct. It's a pretty good deal: perform well at school and you get free stuff. According to the students benefitting from this program, it's the perfect way to motivate their peers at school.
Good grades and good behavior can lead to a good trade-off for these students living in the Foote Homes.
"We are a report card incentive program with schools in the 38126 area: Georgia Avenue Elementary, Cummings Elementary, LaRose Elementary, Booker T. Washington High School and Vance Middle School," said Sameka Johnson, Gold Card Coordinator for the Rise Program.
It's the Rise Foundation's Redemption Program. Students bring in their report cards after each 9-week period and are able to trade good performance in for various items like gift cards, hats, and clothes.
"We bring our report cards in and they look at our grades and do our scores and help us. They tell us to write on a piece of paper what we should do better on," said Robyn Phillips, a sophomore at Booker T. Washington High.
"It encourages students to have better grades and to have a better understanding of having achievements by doing what you're suppose to do," said middle schooler Terrion Mayfield.
If nothing catches their eye immediately, these good students can even bank their points holding onto them until the end of the year to cash in big time!
"To band them means you can save them for your next report card and add on for your next amount of points," said Mayfield.
It's a program that encourages students to study hard and be good. Two things that will help lead to success down the road.
