GREENBRIER, Ark. - Faulkner County authorities say they've arrested a Little Rock man after a car stopped in the middle of U.S. 65 in Greenbrier and a dog was dumped out into the middle of traffic on the five-lane highway.
Maj. Andy Shock of the Faulkner County sheriff's office said the dog, a boxer, was hit by two cars, but witnesses quickly went to his aid. Shock said that, fortunately, the incident took place in front of an animal hospital which quickly took in the victim.
According to Shock, other witnesses followed the car the dog had been dumped out of, telephoning 911 and providing a detailed description of the vehicle. Deputies stopped the car in Conway, about 5 miles to the south, and arrested Doyle Scroggin.
Scroggin is charged with felony cruelty to animals, littering and DWI.
Veterinarian Melissa Lombardi said the dog, named Peyton, was able to walk Monday, three days after his encounter with traffic. She said that, surprisingly, Peyton suffered no broken bones.
