MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Lorenzen Wright missing person's case took a pivotal turn Wednesday when police were led to southeast Memphis and eventually found his body. Since then there's been a stream of questions and few answers.
After more than a week of not knowing, the family of Lorenzen Wright got their first clue that the worst had happened. Police from around the Memphis area descended on a wooded area in the southeast part of the city Wednesday. Soon their search turned up Wright's body.
"This is a shock, this is a shock right here. I can't picture nobody even wanting to harm him. Who would want to do that, for what?" said Kenny Brown.
That night, family, friends, and fans were drawn to the site near Hacks Cross and Germantown road. Not yet knowing for sure it was the 6'11 former Tiger and NBA star that made Memphis so proud of him with his basketball talents and big heart for giving back to the community.
"A guy who worked his whole career, ultimately to get his dreams, and something like this happens," said Elliot Perry.
The official confirmation Wright was dead, came 24 hours later. Six dozen police spent Thursday combing the wooded area around where Wright's body may have laid for nine days.
By the late afternoon Memphis police announced he'd been shot and they were working to find his killer and a motive.
"I don't have a clue whatever it is. It's not worth this; it wasn't worth this at all. I think whomever did this should come forward," said Tawana White.
Police are still piecing the puzzle together, including the 911 call Wright made from his cell phone in the early hours of July 19th.
A call that went to Germantown where sources say the dispatcher heard Wright say a curse word followed by nearly a dozen shots.
