Friends and Family Mourn Wright's Death

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The scene where Lorenzen's Wrights body was found was active into the late hours of the night Wednesday and all day Thursday.

Not just from police investigators but mourners, who wanted to pay their respects to a life that was taken to soon.

Dark clouds rolled through the city of Memphis and the skies seemed to weep along with family, friends and fans of Lorenzen Wright.

"He was a good guy to go out like this. Its just heart breaking." said Kirby High Basketball Coach Charles Frank

Wrights body was discovered near a field in southeast Memphis Wednesday. Thursday mourners continued to show up at the spot where he died to offer their condolences.

"No one deserves to die like this," Marqui Fifer said. "And to be left out in a field like this it hurts your heart to see something like this."

Some of the many who showed up at the scene walked through the field to see exactly where the father of six was slain, wanting to be near Wright and pay their respects.

"Walking up to the scene it's a very eerie feeling once you get closer," Fifer went on to say. "You feel something in the air. Just a heart wrenching pain to see that spot where he was left there for days. It does something to you."

Some like Eric Person turned back after walking only a few yards into the field.

"You want to see it. But then again you don't," said Persons. "You don't want to even imagine the vision of what he went through and things like that. So that's why I turned back around. I can pay my respects in other ways."

Fank added "What goes through my mind is what he went through before this happened. It's just heart breaking. I tossed and turned all night from what I heard about it."

Lorenzen meant a lot not only the City of Memphis but the folks here at the New Era Barber Shop. So much so, that they put his picture at the front of the mural.

"Its just real tough to deal with. We all trying to pull together as a unit as a family and support one another through it and stay away from the rumors and all the bad things and negative things that are being said. That's not important. Our main concern is for his family and his six kids where our prayers lie," New Era Owner Antavio Brigance said.
Barbers at new era say when Lorenzen came to the shop Monday he was his normal happy self.

"He comes by, might bring all the boys," said Kelvin Lott of New Era. "Big family day- come in with all the boys kick back and get a haircut, chicken wings next door, regular dad. Not the NBA player. Good dad, just a good guy."
