Former Register of Deeds Employee Indicted

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A former employee of the Shelby County Register of Deeds office has been indicted by a grand jury for theft and misconduct.

50-year old Regina Daniel was arrested on charges of Theft of Property over $1,000, Theft of Property over $500, and official misconduct. Daniel, who has been fired, is accused of stealing money from the office as well as a law firm that dealt with the Register's office. According to Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons, the incidents occurred between September 2008 and January 2009.

Daniel has since been released on $5,000 bond and is due in court September 1.
