MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Twenty-four hours after finding a body in a field between Hacks Cross and Germantown Road, Memphis Police released their report confirming what family members of Lorenzen Wright already knew.
The giant of a basketball player, and man to those he loved, was positively identified through dental records. According to the Shelby County Medical Examiner, Wright was shot and his death is now a homicide.
What the report does not say however is when Wright was killed. Shelby County Emergency Services Search and Rescue located his body Wednesday afternoon off Callis Cutoff in Southeast Memphis 7 days after Wright was reported missing, and 11 days after he was last seen by family members.
"I think there is a very high level of concern and intensity in terms of trying to locate him, to find someone that's seen him. Anything of that nature," said Collierville Public Information Officer, Mark Heuberger on Monday, July 26th.
The Collierville Police Department took Wright's original missing person's report July 22nd, but somewhere in their investigation they discovered a 911 call placed from Wright's cell phone in the early hours of the 19th.
The report said that the day he disappeared, he had been dropped off at a restaurant by a woman and later taken to his ex-wife's house in Collierville, a Memphis suburb. The ex-wife, Sherra Wright, told officers that Wright left her home in the middle of the night with someone.
Sources tell FOX13 that in the call Wright can be heard using a curse word, then there's the sound of gunshots in the background. We don't know when Collierville came across the 911 call.
This week they maintained they had no indication of foul play. So, what happened during the 9 days between July 19th and the 28th?
That question is still unanswered because neither Memphis nor Collierville will talk about it.
