MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A first of its kind library is now an educational stepping stone for children at a Shelby County Head start facility in Downtown Memphis.

The official opening of the "Books for Kids" library was celebrated at the Martin Luther King Jr. Head Start Center.

Shelby county interim Mayor Joe Ford joined others and read to children at the library opening.

The facility is the result of a partnership between Homewood Suites by Hilton and the Early Childhood Education Advocacy Group "Books for Kids" based in New York.

Homewood Suites plans to sponsor and open more "Books for Kids" libraries in Memphis over the next several years.
