More Police Force Downtown

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - On August 1st there'll be plenty of representation from the "thin blue line" in the downtown entertainment district.

Memphis Mayor A C Wharton says nearly two dozen officers will be on foot patrol duty to insure the safety of people on Beale Street and the surrounding area.

Wharton said the Memphis Police Department is working on scheduling patrol cops during peak periods of activity including the weekends.

Wharton said the move is a permanent one.
