FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas says it expects enrollment this fall to approach 21,000 students at its Fayetteville campus.

The state's flagship university said Monday that more than 20,700 students are expected to start classes next month.

The school also says it expects a record number of new freshman, with 3,458 already having signed up. The school set a goal of having 3,350 new freshmen by 2015, so the school is five years ahead of plan.

Final enrollment numbers will be available in the second week after the fall semester begins.

The school says that most incoming freshmen will receive Arkansas Challenge scholarships, which are funded by the state lottery.
