MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The two Democratic candidates for the House seat representing Memphis are taking advantage of early voting to rally their constituents.
Two-term U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen is being challenged by former Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton in the race for the 9th District seat in West Tennessee.
Cohen held a morning gathering at his campaign headquarters, then voted at a downtown Memphis election office with a group of supporters.
Herenton hosted about 200 people at a midday barbecue and rally that featured a disc jockey and dancers. He later voted in the same place Cohen did.
The two almost crossed paths at the polling place. Cohen watched from a car parked nearby as a bus carrying Herenton and supporters arrived.
