MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Norfolk Southern will build a $129 million terminal in Fayette County.
The intermodal rail hub will shift containerized freight between trains and trucks on what had been at cattle ranch in Rossville, about five miles east of Collierville.
The Commercial Appeal reported the facility is expected to open in January 2012 and will create 429 jobs.
Gov. Phil Bredesen and Norfolk Southern CEO Wick Moorman announced the project on Thursday.
The newspaper reported the terminal is also expected to spawn manufacturing and warehousing operations in Fayette County and in neighboring Marshall County, Miss.
It will be the fourth intermodal freight yard in the area, further enhancing the Memphis metropolitan area's position as a distribution center.
