LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A federal judge says jurors can see "gruesome" photos of Dr. Trent Pierce's injuries after a bomb exploded, despite defense attorneys' claims that the images are prejudicial.
Attorneys for Dr. Randeep Mann asked Judge Brian Miller to stop prosecutors from repeatedly showing graphic pictures taken after the February 2009 blast. Mann is charged in connection with the bombing.
The defense says there's no dispute that Pierce was severely injured and that the photographs could scare the jury into convicting him without any strong evidence. Miller on Wednesday rejected that motion and prosecutors plan to show jurors nine photos of Pierce's face, arms and legs.
A trauma surgeon testified Wednesday morning that Pierce underwent multiple surgeries and at one point had to be resuscitated when his heart stopped.
