MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Congressman Steve Cohen held a news conference Monday to declare himself the candidate with the most Democratic support.
With elected leaders and fellow candidates in the August election by his side, Cohen read a list of democratic officials that have declared support of the Cohen campaign. Cohen named everyone from city council members to civil rights leaders.
But his opponent, Dr. Willie Herenton, answered back Monday saying he doesn't need the endorsement of politicians because he has the support of the people of the ninth district.
"If any African American stood with Cohen today as an endorsement, they ought to feel embarrassed," said Herenton.
"To do the best for Memphis, we've got a great city, we just have to work together and embrace diversity," said Cohen.
Cohen and Herenton also talked about the possibility of a debate right here on FOX13. So far, there has been no debate successful in securing both candidates.
