MEMPHIS, Tenn. - They've worked together for years, now it appears, professional wrestler Jerry Lawler and former wrestling promoter Corey Maclin are going to duke it out in court.
In a lawsuit, filed Friday morning, Lawler alleged Maclin sold the rights to a Memphis wrestling video library he bought years ago.
"He sold them said he owned the rights to all the matches and sold them and now they've put out on 20 volumes of dvd's and they're selling them all over the world," Lawler said.
Lawler said he ran across the DVDs being sold at a wrestling match.
They were titled: 'Corey Maclin Presents Classic Memphis Wrestling'.
"He sold what I paid $250,000 for $20,000. I think at the very least he owes me $20,000," Lawler said.
Maclin told Fox 13 he was surprised to find out, he was being sued. He said he hasn't seen the lawsuit and doesn't know all the details but feels it's in response to a cease and desist letter he sent Lawler two weeks ago, requesting Lawler not to use his name or likeness on his new wrestling show.
Maclin, who's running for Shelby County Court Clerk, said he does not want to associate with people Lawler is doing business with.
"That's his story and i guess he's sticking to it. The truth of the matter is his name or likeness has never been used on our new wrestling show," Lawler said.
Maclin said Lawler's lawsuit is politically motivated.
Lawler said it's not.
"All I'm concerned with is he sold something and claimed it was his, when it wasn't," Lawler said.
Lawler said he also sent a cease and desist letter to the companies producing the video.
No court date has been set.
