MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Some Memphis City School parents were angry and looking for answers Friday. They said their kids were left to wander the streets after a school bus broke down.

Friday afternoon, a bus ran out of gas as it was driving children home from summer school at Coleman Elementary in Raleigh. One bus rider said students used the bus driver's cell phone to call their parents, but other kids were allowed to just walk home alone.

One mom said she called the school, only to find out her 7-year-old son was picked up by a stranger and then taken back to the school. The mom said no one at the school knew who the stranger was. She said things could have turned out a lot worse.

"What if my son would have been in a car wreck with that person that dropped him off at school? Anything could have happened. What if he never made it to school? I would still be missing my child right now. That is very dissatisfying, very. Ooh! But I am so thankful that I have my child," one mother, Ashley Holliday said.

A spokesman for MCS tells FOX13 they're in a transition period with their busing service and plan to investigate the incident next week, after the July 4th holiday.
