Mayor Rejects Jefferson's Resignation

City Attorney Submitted Resignation Thursday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis City Attorney Elbert Jefferson submitted his resignation Thursday, which was "respectfully declined" by Mayor Willie Herenton.

According to the mayor's office, they are not releasing the circumstances surrounding Jefferson's resignation, nor the reason as to why it was rejected by the mayor.

45-year old Elbert Jefferson served as deputy city attorney from 2002 - 2007, after which he took over the city’s top legal spot, replacing Sara Hall.

Jefferson has not made any public statement regarding his pending resignation.
