Olive Branch Car Thief Tackled by Football Player

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. - An attempted car thief was arrested in Olive Branch Tuesday after he was caught in the act by the intended victim, who just happened to be a college football player.

According to Olive Branch Police, officers were called to the 5600-block of Stateline Road just before 3:00pm on reports of an attempted auto theft.

The victim, a 22-year old cornerback for a local university, was inside his home when he heard a car door shut. When he looked out his window, he witnessed a white male sitting in the driver's seat of his father's Cadillac.

The victim confronted the suspect, who fled the scene on foot. The victim pursued the suspect for several yards, then tackled and detained the suspect until officers arrived.

18-year old Cody Cole was arrested and charged with Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft. Cole is being held at the Desoto County Jail on $50,000 bond.
