WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. - One week ago today, two West Memphis Police officers were gunned down on Interstate 40 during a traffic stop. The suspected gunmen, Jerry and Joe Kane, were later killed in a shoot-out outside a West Memphis Wal-Mart.

According to West Memphis Police Chief Bob Paudert, the two officers didn't have a chance against the shooters because they were simply outgunned.

The officers were carrying pistols but the teen was armed with an AK-47, powerful enough to penetrate a bullet proof vest.

Now the West Memphis Police Department is exploring ways to equip every officer with more firepower.

Members of the West Memphis Police Department SWAT Team already carry assault rifles.
