MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Severe weather throughout the state of Tennessee has caused a performance change at Sunday’s Beale Street Music Festival. Alison Kraus & Union Station and John Hiatt, both from the Nashville area, have cancelled Sunday night’s scheduled performance. Sections of interstate highway from Memphis to Nashville have been closed due to severe flooding and wash-outs, as well as devastating flooding and road closures around Middle Tennessee will prevent Kraus and Hiatt from making the trip to Memphis.
Both performers were scheduled for the Budweiser stage on Sunday. The schedule for that stage will be: Truth & Salvage – 2:00pm; Balti, a renown rap artist from Memphis in May’s 2010 honored country, Tunisia – 3:35pm; Elmwood, an act cancelled due to yesterday’s severe weather, - 5:35pm and closing the stage at 7:20pm will be Band of Horses a popular, young band who plays country tinged rock and whose new album is anticipated on May 19th.
“We regret these cancellations as we were indeed anticipating these great performances,” said James L. Holt Memphis in May President & CEO, “but we completely understand the circumstances and send our thoughts of concern to all the people in Middle Tennessee who are enduring these severe conditions.”
Other performances scheduled for Sunday include alternative rock stars 3 Doors Down, Memphis super-group Earth, Wind & Fire, and Booker T. & the MGs, plus Chevelle, Boys Like Girls, Vince Neil of Motley Crew, and the Leon Russell Band.
