Suspect Pleads Guilty to Raping Student

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - One of three men charged in the abduction, beating and rape involving two University of Memphis students pleaded guilty to the crimes Thursday.

18-year old James Hamilton pleaded guilty to six felonies in 2008 case.

Hamilton said he and two other men kidnapped a young man and woman from the Stratum Apartments on Highland and drove them to a remote location, then raped the woman and shot the man when he tried to help.

Hamilton also pleaded guilty to breaking into dorm rooms at Lemoyne-Owen College.

The judge sentenced him to 35-years, with no parole.
