Arlington, Tn - Inside Arlington High School, more than 1000 students learned a lesson about the dangers of texting while driving.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is using Arlington High as a test bed to teach students just how dangerous getting behind the wheel while texting can be.
The presentation wasn't just police talking. They used videos of actual accidents to show teen drivers that texting and driving isn't just dangerous, it can kill.
Reports suggest texting while driving is about 6 times more likely to result in an accident than driving while intoxicated. People who text while driving are 23% more likely to be in a car accident. Deputies say the study doesn't lie.
That's why cell phone application creators are coming up with answers for parents, effectively blocking the ability to text while driving using the cell phones GPS as an enabler.
Teen drivers say if it means saving lives, they are on board.
