One Door Closes, Another Opens

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Amongst all the chaos of the last few days with many anxiously awaiting a Coach John Calipari decision on whether to stay in Memphis or head to Lexington, the door has crept in as a sort of cult phenomenon.

MyFoxMemphis and FOX13 sent a crew out to the back door of the University of Memphis Athletic Department early Monday morning in an attempt to talk to Calipari about rumors that the University of Kentucky had been talking to Cal about the opening as the new head basketball coach of the Wildcats.

As the hours wore on, MyFoxMemphis stayed streaming the door with little or nothing going on, and eventually people logged on and started chatting. Soon the chat room and the door started to take on a life of its own and developed a significant following at times topping over 3000 participants.

The following spilled over into message boards and has culminated in a YouTube interview of the door, a Facebook group profile with over 800 fans, a spinoff page for the door reporter Les Smith , an I heart door t-shirt , and even being discussed on the ESPN homepage .

MyFoxMemphis and FOX13 will be back at the University of Memphis Athletic Department today at noon for a press conference regarding the future of the men's basketball program, and we might just have to roll some more of that beautiful door footage.
