MEMPHIS, Tenn. - More details have been released on the alleged rape that happened Monday at Mitchell High School that led to the suspension of an MCS security guard.

31 year old Antonio Matthews, a Memphis City School Security Officer, was charged late Wednesday with statutory rape by an authority figure.

The affidavit obtained by FOX13 Thursday said that Matthews, who worked at Mitchell High School, went to pull a 16-year-old girl out of class, telling the teacher he had something to discuss with the student. The girl advised 2 other students come with them, but Matthews told them to go back to class. According to the affidavit, he had the victim follow him to the basement of the school's auditorium, where he allegedly raped her.

Dr. Alfred Hall, Chief of Staff for Memphis City Schools, said that Matthews' had nothing on his record that would have signaled a red flag, and that all security officers are thoroughly screened.

"All of our officers go through an extensive background check. They go through psychological and psychiatric evaluations and profile screenings. They have to pass different assessments and there was nothing in this individual's background or any of the assessments that were taken, that gave any inkling of concern about behavior."

Dr. Hall acknowledges though, that background checks are not guarantees and encourages students to report any type of inappropriate behavior on school grounds.
