OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. - A 17-year olive branch boy is recovering at The Med Thursday after being stabbed over a posting on the social networking website MySpace.
Investigators say a few clicks of the keyboard led to a stabbing on the 10000 block of Oakleaf Drive in Olive Branch Wednesday night.
"We came outside and I looked there was an ambulance and police cars out there and we sat and waited," said neighbor James Luckett.
Police say a 17-year old was stabbed twice, once in the stomach during a fight about information another 17-year old posted on MySpace.
According to Tim Presley with Olve Branch Police, "He became angry, texts went back and forth and he decided to take friends with him and ride to Oakleaf where the fight occurred."
Police say the posting was about a girl. They're working with MySpace to unlock the pages that are set to private.
"We understand the post was about a female, whether about a sister, girlfriend or what we're really not sure at this time," said Presley.
Luckett says he doesn't allow his children to use social networking sites anymore.
"In MySpace, my daughter was contacted by older men when she was 12 dealing with sexual issues? We cancelled that."
But Luckett says he and his wife use social networking sites to connect with old friends. Olive Branch Police use the sites as well.
"There are a lot of good points to social networking," said Presley. "We use our police Facebook a lot to connect with citizens."
But while teens are spending more time on the internet, teen violence websites show they're also subjected to internet violence. One in three admit to being victims of cyber-bullying.
"You can't ever be too careful," said Luckett. "You have to watch what you put on the internet watch what you say to people these days."
Police say the other 17-year old involved in the fight was driven to the hospital by his father late Wednesday night with injuries to his face.
