MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The annual Holy Week celebration of the Church of God in Christ will remain in St. Louis through at least 2013.

The assembly that convened in Memphis for 102 years moved to St. Louis in 2010. It is the largest convention in either city, according to The Commercial Appeal.

Bishop Brandon Porter of Memphis said Memphis couldn't accommodate the denomination's convention needs in 2013 and St. Louis agreed to ensure the dates needed.

Mayor AC Wharton met with church leaders on Friday in St. Louis and said the city will continue its efforts to bring the convention back to Memphis, where the denomination is based.

More than 35,000 people attend the meetings.
